Planning a wedding can feel like organizing a Broadway production— there are so many moving pieces! But when your timeline flows, your day will too. As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how a well-planned schedule transforms the entire experience for couples. And as a newlywed myself, I get how emotional and magical the day can be. This guide is here to help you plan every moment of your big day with ease and joy.
1. Start with the Ceremony Time
- Work backwards and forwards from there.
- Is it sunset? Early afternoon? This affects your entire timeline.
2. Consider a First Look
- A first look allows for more portraits and a calmer pace.
- Bonus: You get to enjoy cocktail hour!
3. Schedule Getting Ready with Buffer Time
- Hair and makeup always take longer than expected.
- Include extra time for robe photos, details, and a few deep breaths.
4. Block Off Time for Family & Couple Portraits
- Groupings take time—especially with large families.
- Pro tip: Give your photographer a must-have list (it helps so much!).
5. Golden Hour is Golden for a Reason
- Leave a 15–20 min slot for golden hour portraits if possible.
- Light hits differently—it’s worth it.
6. Add Wiggle Room
- Build in 10–15 mins here and there for transitions or delays.
7. Share the Timeline with All Vendors
- I always recommend creating a shared PDF (this helped me SO much when I got married!)
- Keep everyone on the same page = a seamless day.

Enjoy your day, because it truly goes by so fast. I know everyone says this, but it’s real. If something doesn’t go exactly as planned, let it go. Be present. Feel everything.
